Used Tractor Subframe

109 available products

The subframe is the component connecting the front axle to the tractor chassis, allowing the front axle to oscillate. Though discreet, it absorbs all stresses from the front assembly. TMC Bejenne recovers these subframes from dismantled machines in its workshops in Naintré, Vienne. We inspect them thoroughly and restock with full traceability. These spare parts are part of our used front axle range.

What is a vehicle or tractor subframe?

In both vehicles and tractors, the subframe is a supporting structure. The tractor subframe, also called balance beam, axle bracket, or axle console, is the structure mounted under the engine block or chassis where the front axle is articulated. On some models, it also serves as the front engine mount. It fulfills two complementary functions: it bears the weight of the machine's front and allows the axle to pivot around a longitudinal axis, enabling all four wheels to maintain ground contact on uneven terrain.

Practically, the subframe receives the front-to-rear oscillation axis of the axle along with the bushings, bearings, or silent blocks guiding this axis depending on the model. On many tractors, it also supports the front weights, loader mount, or lower guards. This makes it a key structural part, whose integrity determines the geometry of the front assembly.

Front tractor subframe: why does it wear out?

A front tractor subframe does not wear out evenly: it fatigues. The alternating stresses from fieldwork, shocks, vibrations, and especially front loads gradually ovalize the bearing housings, crack welds, or deform mounting ears. On heavily used machines, play at the oscillation axis causes knocking noises and accelerated wear of the bushings.

Signs to watch for

  • Dull knocks at the front or in the steering when passing over slopes or ruts.
  • Noticeable play at the oscillation axis of the axle when the machine is lifted.
  • Visibly ovalized axle housings upon disassembly.
  • Cracks or fracture beginnings around the mounting points.
  • Mounting bolts that regularly loosen despite correct tightening.
  • A front axle that does not naturally return to horizontal.

Subframe for tractor loader: special demands

Tractors equipped with front loaders require particular attention. Every load lift impacts the front of the machine—including the subframe and its anchor points. A subframe for a tractor loader operates under much harsher conditions than one used solely for pulling. If your machine spends most of its time with a front loader, check these mounts at least once per season: this is where the first cracks usually appear.

Used subframes available at TMC Bejenne

Our stock covers the main brands common on French farms. Parts listed as in stock are available immediately, and each listing indicates the original machine's brand and model.

New Holland and IH tractor subframes

These are the two most abundant sets. The New Holland tractor subframe is the most represented reference in stock, while the IH tractor subframe covers a wide range of models, from 1980s tractors to recent Puma models. This depth is simply because these brands are the most dismantled at our site.

Massey Ferguson, Ford front subframe, and Landini tractor subframes

Historic brands are not forgotten: stock regularly includes subframes for Massey Ferguson and Landini tractors, as well as front subframes for older Ford series. For a Ford front subframe, the serial number helps distinguish between generations. On 4WD tractors, it is also called a balance beam, as it supports the oscillation of the axle and adjacent steering components. On these often older machines, the new part is no longer referenced: the inspected used part remains the only practical option to get the machine running again.

What is the price of a tractor engine subframe?

There is no fixed price. It depends on the brand, model, subframe design, and condition. That is why each product sheet offers a “Request a Quote” button plus a “Call Me Back” option: you receive a tailored offer for your machine, including shipping terms. Our specialized technicians are reachable at 05 86 24 00 26.

How to choose the right subframe

  • Note your tractor's brand, type, and serial number.
  • Compare the bolt hole spacing and the diameter of the axis housings.
  • Check for the presence and condition of oscillation bushings.
  • Inspect for cracks around the ears and welds.
  • Photograph the removed part: our technicians confirm the match.

Removal, refitting, and maintenance

Removing a subframe requires separately supporting the front block and axle: prepare suitable lifting equipment and stands. Take advantage of the clear access to replace oscillation bushings and inspect the often-marked axis. During reassembly, strictly follow the tightening torques specified by the manufacturer and recheck after a few hours of operation. An annual visual inspection of mounts is enough to detect a crack onset before it becomes problematic.

Why choose TMC Bejenne for used agricultural tractor parts?

TMC Bejenne has been dismantling agricultural equipment since 1945. The Naintré site covers 11 hectares and houses over 25,000 references of used agricultural parts. Every subframe, like every part in stock, is cleaned, inspected, and checked before sale, and our technicians verify compatibility with your tractor before shipment. This circular economy approach gives a second life to original equipment manufacturer parts designed to withstand your machine's demands.

Other front assembly parts

A worn subframe often comes with a worn front axle itself. Depending on diagnosis, check the front axle housing, the kingpin, the wheel reducer, the bevel gear, the drive shaft, or the transfer case. When the front axle is too damaged, the complete front axle family offers ready-to-install assemblies. The entire range is grouped in the front axle category.

From a specialist in agricultural parts sourced from dismantling, who inspects spare parts before sale. TMC Bejenne offers subframes for New Holland, Case IH, John Deere, Massey Ferguson, and Renault. Call us at 05 86 24 00 26 with your tractor's brand, model, and serial number: we check availability and compatibility.

On some tractors, yes: the subframe is bolted under the engine block and supports both the front of the machine and the articulation of the front axle. On others, it is mounted on an independent chassis. The manufacturer's reference and some photos enable our technicians to identify the correct part.

An agricultural tractor includes numerous pieces of equipment: front loader, front weights, front hitch, rear hitch, PTO shaft, or hydraulic distributors. At the front, several of these rest on the subframe, which is why it's important to check its fixtures when the machine is equipped. For each spare part of these equipments, our technicians look for the suitable reference in our stock.

It is recommended. The oscillation bushings and axis wear with the subframe, and their replacement is easier during removal. A healthy subframe mounted with worn bushings would quickly develop play at the front axle.
