Used Tractor Wheel Axle Shaft

95 available products

A knocking noise in turns, a front wheel that no longer drives in four-wheel drive: the wheel axle shaft is often to blame. TMC Bejenne offers used wheel axle shafts, also known as half shafts, sourced from dismantled agricultural tractors, combine harvesters, and other agricultural machinery, all inspected in our workshop before stocking. They are part of our used front axle range.

Role of the Wheel Axle Shaft in the Front Axle

The wheel axle shaft transmits torque from the differential to the hub. On a four-wheel drive tractor, it starts from the bevel gear, passes through the front axle housing, then the kingpin, where a double universal joint allows it to follow steering movements. On a non-driven front axle, there is no wheel axle shaft: only the spindle carries the hub. The wheel axle shaft then drives the wheel reducer, which multiplies the movement. Its length, splines, and joint type are specific to each axle: therefore, a wheel axle shaft should be chosen based on the axle reference, not just the machine model. On a combine harvester, the front axle is the driven axle: the wheel axle shaft connects the differential to the final reducer, with no steering articulation since the rear wheels handle steering. The force transmitted is significant during peak harvest, causing wear on splines and support bearings.

Used Wheel Axle Shafts Available at TMC Bejenne

  • Front axle wheel axle shafts for four-wheel drive tractors.
  • Left and right side wheel axle shafts, often of different lengths.
  • Shafts with double universal joints or constant velocity joints, depending on axle design, plus front axle universal joints.
  • Wheel axle shafts for combine harvesters and telescopic handlers, subject to availability.
  • Parts sourced from New Holland, John Deere, Case IH, Massey Ferguson, and Claas machines.

What Are the Symptoms of a Damaged Drive Shaft?

On a front axle, the wheel axle shaft or its joint is most often the culprit. The most common sign is a regular knocking noise when steering with the front axle engaged, indicating play in the double universal joint. A vibration increasing with speed, jerks on acceleration, or a leak at the kingpin seal should also raise concern. A shaft break results in a front wheel no longer driving while the axle continues to turn. Have a diagnosis made before ordering: a worn hub bearing or kingpin can sometimes produce similar noises. A torn boot or seal also lets dirt into the joint; replacing it early often prevents the need to replace the entire shaft.

Information to Note Before Ordering

  • The brand, model, and serial number of the tractor or combine harvester.
  • The brand and front axle reference, stamped on the plate or housing.
  • The side concerned, left or right, and the length of the removed shaft.
  • The number of splines at each end and the type of joint.
  • Some photos of the part and surrounding area.
  • The number of teeth on the bevel gear if the axle has been opened.

Used Tractor Parts: The TMC Bejenne Approach

Since 1945, TMC Bejenne has dismantled agricultural machinery of all brands on its 11-hectare site in Naintré. Each wheel axle shaft is dismantled, cleaned, and inspected: checking straightness, spline condition, play in cross joints and bearing supports. Our stock of 25,000 references also covers adjacent axle parts, from the subframe to the transfer case. Our specialized technicians confirm compatibility before each shipment.

The drive shaft connects the gearbox or transfer case to the front axle. The wheel axle shaft is located inside the axle: it runs from the differential to the wheel hub. These two parts are not interchangeable. For upstream components, please see our range of used transmission parts.

On most axles, the double universal joint is integral to the wheel axle shaft assembly. If the cross joint has play, replacing the complete used shaft is often easier than replacing the cross joint alone, which requires press tooling. Take the opportunity to check the bushings and seals of the kingpin, which undergo similar stresses.

Sometimes yes, because New Holland and Case IH belong to the same group and share some axles. However, compatibility depends on the axle reference, not the tractor brand. Please provide us with this reference: our technicians verify the match before making any offer.

The price depends on the machine, the shaft length, and joint type, so it is provided by quote. Call TMC Bejenne at 05 86 24 00 26 or use the page form, specifying the machine, axle reference, and side. We will find the part and send you a detailed quote. You can also check our complete front axles if the entire assembly needs replacement.
