A combine harvester has several augers, each positioned at a specific point in the grain circuit. Under the cleaning tank, the clean grain auger collects the harvest and sends it to the elevator. The straw auger returns poorly threshed ears to the thresher. Inside the hopper, filling augers distribute the grain evenly, and the unloading auger empties it into the grain cart. All these augers operate under load during the harvest season, often with humid grain loaded with dust. Even a thin flight or a warped shaft can reduce throughput, and the issue usually appears too late, at the first jam.

An auger rarely works alone: the screw conveyor forms a chain where each element depends on the previous one. It receives grain from the cleaning components and transfers it to the grain elevator, which lifts the harvest to the hopper. When replacing a screw conveyor, remember to check the gears, bearings, and drive gearbox: a worn component shortens the lifespan of the replaced part.
