The cleaning systems separate grains from harvest residues (straw, chaff, debris) immediately after threshing, using a chaffer fan mounted on the fan shaft, combined with stepped sieves that sort the grains before they move upward to the grain tank. A poorly adjusted feeder, clogged sieves, or an unbalanced chaffer fan causes visible grain losses behind the machine. Clean grains then move up the unloading auger to the swivel spout that transfers them to the grain cart.
