The 12V electric actuator is the most common voltage found in tractors and agricultural machinery. This linear electric actuator, also called a linear drive, operates on 12V DC (direct current). An internal motor drives a screw that extends the rod and moves the component: flap, deflector, chute, or cutting height adjustment. On newer machines, it integrates with electrical control systems and often works alongside an electro-distributor or a cabin-controlled distributor. Stroke, Thrust, and Mounting: How to Choose Correctly

The actuator stroke, that is, the rod extension length in millimeters, must match the original part to ensure correct stops and working angles. The thrust force, expressed in newtons, must correspond to the actual load: an undersized actuator overheats and wears quickly during prolonged use. Also check the load capacity specified by the manufacturer, in newtons or kilograms: it must cover the weight of the flap or moved component with some margin. Finally, compare mounting hole centers, clevis type, and extension speed. A fast actuator suits frequent openings, while a slow one is better for precise adjustments. On agricultural machinery, a stroke that's too long stresses the actuator on stops; a too-short stroke limits flap opening or lifting height. For sealing, check the protection rating: an actuator mounted externally on agricultural equipment must resist dust, mud, and high-pressure cleaning, typically rated IP65 or higher.

24V and 220V Electric Actuators: Which Voltage?

• 12V DC: standard circuit tractors, trailers, and most mounted equipment.
• 24V DC: some self-propelled machines, silage cutters, and combines with dedicated circuits.
• 220V: mainly fixed installations such as dryers, silos, or milking parlors.
• A 12V actuator connected to 24V will be destroyed; a 24V actuator won't operate on 12V.
• Always check the supply voltage on the electric actuator’s label.

Electro-Hydraulic or Hydraulic Actuator?

The electro-hydraulic actuator combines an electric motor, a small pump, and an actuator in one unit. Autonomous, it doesn't require the tractor’s hydraulic circuit and delivers much greater force than a standard electric actuator.
