How does an electromagnetic clutch work?

How to tell if an electric clutch is worn?

Irregular engagement, slipping, a burning smell, or grinding noise often indicate a worn clutch. Wear on friction surfaces increases the air gap, meaning the distance between the armature and rotor, causing the clutch to stop engaging properly. Some models allow adjustment of this air gap.
