Which second-hand transmission mode to choose?

There are two modes of transmission: mechanical and hydraulic transmissions.

Mechanical transmissions

Starting from the engine, we find in order: the clutch, the gearbox and the rear axle (made up of a bevel gear, a differential, wheel shafts, reducers and brakes), which form the used mechanical transmissions.

Hydraulic transmissions

Power transmission is ensured by the presence of fluid (oil), not by the rotation of a shaft. A distinction must be made between:

• used hydrokinetic clutches (coupler and torque converter): they use the properties of the moving fluid (speed) to transmit power;
• used hydrostatic transmission: it uses the pressure of the liquid to transmit movement. It replaces a classic gearbox with the advantage of having an infinite number of possible gear ratios without disengaging the clutch (forward and reverse gear).
