Used Tractor Differential

42 available products

Most differentials that arrive at the workshop do not fail due to wear. They fail because the lock remained engaged on hard ground or during a sharp turn in the field. When the satellites or planet gears are damaged, TMC Bejenne offers you a used tractor differential taken from an identified machine, checked in the workshop, and sold well below the new price, in the used rear axle range.

Differential and Drive Wheel: What Happens in a Turn

When turning, the outer wheel travels a greater distance than the inner wheel. The differential, located at the center of the rear axle, allows each drive wheel to rotate at its own speed: the satellites pivot on their axis and drive the two planet gears, each connected to a half shaft. Without it, every maneuver would cause the outer wheel to slip, leading to premature tire wear and torsional stress in the transmission. It receives motion from the bevel gear to which it is bolted.

Differential Lock: Traction, Slippage, and Hard Ground

  • An open differential directs torque to the drive wheel with the least traction, i.e., the one that’s slipping.
  • The differential lock connects the two planet gears to restore traction on loose terrain.
  • Operated by heel pedal on older models, electrohydraulic controls are available from the cab on newer ones.
  • Engage in a straight line at low speed, and disengage as soon as the obstacle is cleared.
  • Never use on hard ground or on the road: the steering will be unresponsive and the satellites absorb all torsional stress of the rear axle.

Tractor Differentials Offered by TMC Bejenne

Our differentials come from New Holland , John Deere , Case IH , and Massey Ferguson tractors, as well as Renault , Claas , Fendt , Fiat , and Same . Each listing specifies the original machine, its year, and the reference number stamped on the part. Please specify the type of differential lock on your tractor, mechanical or electrohydraulic: this often distinguishes two apparently identical housings. TMC Bejenne has been working with used agricultural parts since 1945 and offers 25,000 references.

Complete Housing or Internal Parts: What to Order?

  • Cracked housing or general wear: the complete differential is recommended.
  • Damaged teeth on a single stage: satellites and planet gears suffice.
  • Non-functioning differential lock: dog clutch, sleeve, and fork are dealt with separately.
  • Chipped crown gear: plan for the rear axle bevel gear as well.
  • Damaged housing, axle tubes, and differential: a complete rear axle from TMC Bejenne is often more cost-effective.

It allows the two drive wheels on the rear axle to rotate at different speeds while still receiving engine torque. In a turn, the outer wheel can cover its distance without slipping. The differential protects tires, transmission, and the ground. On four-wheel drive tractors, the front axle has its own differential.

It locks the differential by linking the two planet gears: each drive wheel then rotates at the same speed, regardless of traction. This allows the tractor to get out of muddy ground or a plowed furrow where one wheel is slipping. The differential lock should be reserved for straight lines at low speed and disengaged before any turn.

Only for a few meters, in a straight line on loose terrain where traction is lacking. On hard ground or on roads, steering becomes unresponsive and torsional forces can break a satellite or a half-shaft within the rear axle. If the lock remains engaged without your intention, have the fork and dog clutch checked before resuming work.
