Used Straw Chopper Deflector
44 available products
Straw chopped falling back in a windrow instead of covering the full cutting width, bent panels after edge passing, a gas strut no longer holding position: the straw chopper deflector is no longer doing its job. TMC Bejenne removes deflectors from combine harvesters dismantled in Naintré, complete with their fins and brackets. Each part is inspected in our workshop and sold at a reduced price. Related parts can be found in our ranges of chopper rotors, chopper housings, and straw spreaders, all within the chopper family.

Straw Chopper Deflector: Role on the Combine Harvester
At the rear of the combine harvester, the chopper cuts the straw discharged from the sieves or rotor, then throws it onto the ground. The deflector, a metal plate fitted with adjustable fins, directs this flow to evenly distribute it across the full working width. Uniform spreading facilitates subsequent soil work, residue breakdown, and direct seeding. When harvesting straw, the deflector lifts or folds back to leave the straw in a windrow.

Chopper Deflectors for New Holland, Claas, John Deere, and Case IH
Each manufacturer designs its deflector specifically for its chopper. For New Holland and Case IH , both CNH group brands, some parts look alike but are not interchangeable without verifying the reference. On Claas Lexion and John Deere S and T series, the fins adjust manually or from the cab depending on the model, altering the brackets and control mechanism. Always note the chopper’s reference and machine width before ordering a used deflector.
Signs of a Worn or Damaged Deflector
- Uneven straw distribution, with a heavy band in the center and bare edges.
- Bent, cracked, or abrasion-worn plates or fins.
- Gas strut no longer holding the deflector in position.
- Play in joints and unstable adjustment.
- Vibrations of the chopper housing during operation.
Adjusting the Deflector According to Crop Type and Cutting Width
Deflector adjustment varies by cutting width, straw volume, and harvest conditions. In wheat or barley, with a cutting width of 7 to 9 meters, fins open to spread the chopped straw to the edges. In canola, the thicker stems spread differently: adjust fin orientation after the initial passes. In crosswinds, adjust the angle to avoid a heavy streak on the leeward side. On newer machines, in-cab adjustment allows fine-tuning during work, at each field change.
Chopper Parts Related to the Deflector
- Chopper rotor and knives, whose wear reduces chopping fineness.
- Chopper housing and counter-knives.
- Chopper clutch and drive belts.
- Straw spreader, enhancing residue distribution.
- Gas struts, pins, and deflector joints.
Price of a Used Chopper Deflector
The price of a used deflector depends on the brand, machine width, and condition of plates and fins. A genuine used part offers a significantly reduced price compared to new replacement parts, especially for high-capacity combine harvesters. Since 1945, TMC Bejenne has inspected parts on its 11-hectare site and maintains 25,000 references of agricultural replacement parts. Our other milling products complement the offering, including complete choppers and chopper clutches. For a quote, call 05 86 24 00 26.
A deflector is a plate or fin that diverts a flow of material or air. On a combine harvester, the chopper deflector guides chopped straw exiting the chopper, spreading it evenly across the cutting width. Good spreading prevents clogging during stubble cultivation and promotes residue decomposition. When lifted, it leaves the straw in a windrow for baling.
Attach the deflector to its original brackets at the rear of the chopper housing, then connect the gas strut or adjustment control. Next, orient the fins to cover the cutting width, considering lateral wind. A field test helps fine-tune the adjustment.
An air deflector directs an airflow toward a specific area. On a combine harvester, deflectors direct the cleaning fan airflow over the sieves to separate small straw particles from grain. On a tractor or cab, they channel ventilation or cooling air. These parts differ from the chopper deflector, which guides chopped straw.
A knife chopper cuts material using fine blades rotating at high speed against counter-knives—this is the type of chopper integrated into a combine harvester, mounted on a rotor. A hammer chopper, heavier, beats and shreds material and is used on tractor-mounted shoulder and branch choppers, better suited to woody vegetation.
