Used Case IH Transmission

74 available products

A slipping gearbox, a transmission that refuses to shift into automatic mode, or an output shaft losing its seal: on a Case IH tractor or combine harvester, the transmission is one of the most stressed and expensive components to replace new. TMC Bejenne offers a large stock of used transmission parts sourced from dismantled end-of-life Case IH equipment: complete gearboxes, output shafts, transmissions, gearbox components, belts, variators, and reducers. Each component is inspected by our specialized technicians before shipment. You gain access to reliable references at a cost significantly lower than new, supporting the circular economy approach promoted by TMC Bejenne since 1945.

Case IH CVX Transmission: Continuously Variable for Large Tractors

The CVX (Continuously Variable Transmission) is one of the most prevalent technologies in Case IH tractors from the 2000s onward. It combines a hydrostatic variator and a mechanical epicyclic gear train to provide perfectly smooth speed progression, without loss of traction, between 0 and 50 km/h. The operator sets a target speed range, and the transmission automatically manages the distribution between the hydrostatic and mechanical parts according to load and engine speed. This system equips models such as Puma 150 CVX, Puma 160 CVX, Puma 240 CVX, Maxxum 130 CVX, and CVX 130, all available in our stock. On these machines, the most wear-exposed components are the hydrostatic variator (internal leakdown), integrated hydraulic pumps and motors in the gearbox, internal drive shafts, and high-pressure seals. Replacing with a used complete gearbox checked in our workshop remains the fastest solution to get the machine operational again without going through a new-priced exchange.

Case IH Powershift and ActiveDrive Transmission: Semi-Automatic Gearboxes

Powershift refers to a load-shift transmission without traction interruption. Unlike a conventional mechanical gearbox requiring clutch disengagement at every shift, Powershift manages torque transfer via electronically controlled wet multi-disk clutches. Case IH applies this principle in two main variants. The ActiveDrive 4 (used on Maxxum and MXU series) offers four load-shift gears per speed range, finely adapting traction to working conditions without shutting off the engine. The ActiveDrive 8 (also known as DKT — Double Clutch Technology — found on higher-end ranges) doubles load-shift capacity with alternating clutches for even smoother transitions. These complex systems heavily stress multi-disk clutches, position sensors, and distribution solenoid valves. Failures often manifest as electronic error codes (TCU), refusal to engage the selected speed range, or jerks during operation. Transmission calibration (clutch slip point reset procedure) is the first step before any mechanical replacement.

Case IH Transmission Issues: Common Failures and Diagnosis

  • Transmission error codes (TCU / ECU): read codes prior to any intervention; calibration codes (series 84xx) often indicate clutch disk wear rather than electronic failure
  • Slippage under load: initial sign of multi-disk clutch wear on Powershift and ActiveDrive; start with calibration, replace if slippage continues
  • CVX stuck in manual mode: usually linked to a faulty position sensor or internal leakage in the hydrostatic variator
  • Leaking output shaft: priority seal replacement; if the housing is cracked, a used complete output shaft is quicker
  • Transmission calibration: mandatory procedure after replacing a Powershift gearbox or clutch; to be performed with the Case IH AFS Pro diagnostic tool
  • Cold knocking noise: wear of bearings or torque converter; to be distinguished from low transmission fluid
  • Case IH transmission oil: must use Hy-Tran Ultra oil (or the equivalent specified by Case IH); never substitute with non-certified oil as it damages clutch disks

Case IH Transmission Oil, Filter, and Regular Maintenance

Transmission oil performs two roles in Powershift and CVX gearboxes: lubricating rotating mechanical parts and acting as the transfer fluid for hydraulic clutches. Degraded oil — worn or contaminated — rapidly deteriorates clutch disks and bearings. Case IH recommends Hy-Tran Ultra (MAT 3525 specification) for all its modern transmissions, with an oil change interval of 1,000 to 1,200 hours depending on the model. The transmission filter must be replaced at every oil change. On Puma CVX and Maxxum models, the transmission housing is shared with the rear hydraulics (PCHS), meaning oil quality also affects the operation of the lift and distributors. When replacing a used gearbox or transmission, drain and flush the circuit before refilling with certified new oil. The CVX (Continuously Variable Transmission) is a continuously variable transmission system with no fixed gear ratios. It combines a hydrostatic variator with a mechanical epicyclic gear train to provide perfectly linear speed progression from 0 km/h up to maximum engine speed, without any loss of traction. The operator sets a target travel speed; the system automatically adjusts the hydrostatic/mechanical ratio based on load and engine speed to reach it with optimal efficiency. On Case IH tractors (Puma CVX, CVX 130, Maxxum 130 CVX), this translates to optimized fuel consumption during plowing and reduced operator fatigue during transport. TMC Bejenne stocks used CVX gearboxes from these models, inspected before shipment.

A Powershift transmission is a load-shift gearbox allowing gear changes without interrupting traction. It uses electronically controlled wet multi-disk clutches that engage and disengage sequentially during gear shifts, eliminating the need for the driver to operate a clutch pedal. The result is almost seamless shifting, maintaining traction even under maximum load. Case IH Maxxum (ActiveDrive 4) and higher ranges (ActiveDrive 8 / DKT) feature Powershift managed by the gearbox electronics (TCU), selecting the optimal gear based on speed, load, and operator input. These gearboxes require rigorous oil maintenance (Hy-Tran Ultra) and regular clutch calibration to preserve performance.

Case IH is one of the leading brands in large cereal farms and French CUMA cooperatives, offering a comprehensive range covering tractors from 60 to over 400 horsepower (Farmall, Maxxum, Puma, Optum, Magnum series) and Axial-Flow combines (AF 5, AF 6, AF 8, AF 9). The Axial-Flow longitudinal rotor design is especially valued on large plots for its high throughput and reduced losses on dense cereals. The AFS platform (Advanced Farming Systems) integrates GPS guidance, yield mapping, and remote telemetry since the first models in the series. For farms already equipped with Case IH machinery, the logistical advantage of shared parts (transmissions, axles, hydraulics) across models is significant. TMC Bejenne has stocked Case IH used parts for all these ranges since 1945.

Among the current lineup, the most powerful Case IH tractor is the Magnum AFS Connect, with top versions delivering around 400 horsepower including temporary boost. This large six-wheel-drive row-crop tractor (optional) is designed for deep tillage, strip-till, and heavy equipment transport. Previous generations include the Magnum 250 (available in our used transmission stock), a common reference for large farms. For combines, the Axial-Flow 9240 is the brand’s premium reference, with header widths up to 12 meters.
