How does a tractor's front axle work?

In a 4WD tractor, the transfer case directs part of the torque forward via a shaft. The bevel gear housed in the central casing redirects this motion at a 90-degree angle, the differential distributes it between both sides, then the axle shafts and wheel reducers apply it to the front wheels.

Can a cracked front axle housing be repaired?

Crack repair on a cast iron housing is rarely durable since the part endures heavy loads and must remain sealed. Replacing it with a tested original front axle housing is generally the safest solution. Have your mechanic diagnose the issue, then consult our selection of used front axle parts .

How do I find the right housing for my tractor?

Record the tractor’s brand, model, and serial number, the axle plate reference, and, if possible, the number stamped on the housing. Include some photos. Our technicians compare these details with available housings—for example, for a New Holland or a Case IH —and confirm compatibility before shipping. A well-identified agricultural part means a hassle-free assembly.

Should bearings be replaced at the same time as the housing?

It is recommended. Removing the housing grants access to bearings and oil seals: replacing them at this time avoids a second repair. Also check the condition of the bevel gear and axle shafts. For a full quote, call TMC Bejenne at 05 86 24 00 26.
