Q: What transmission does the John Deere 5090M have?

The John Deere 5090M is equipped with a 12 forward and 12 reverse gear PowrReverser transmission featuring an electrohydraulic under-load shuttle. This type of gearbox allows switching between forward and reverse without clutch use, simplifying repetitive loading or handling tasks. A mechanical option with 9 forward and 3 reverse gears is also available depending on configurations.

Q: How to maintain a John Deere transmission?

Proper maintenance primarily involves regularly changing the transmission oil according to the intervals recommended in the tractor's manual. Checking the oil level before intensive use should become routine. Using John Deere-approved lubricants ensures compatibility with internal parts. If abnormal noise or difficulty shifting occurs, quickly diagnosing the gearbox prevents more costly damage.

Q: How to choose between AutoPowr and e19 PowerShift?

The choice mainly depends on the type of work performed. AutoPowr suits tasks requiring precise and steady speed control , like sowing or spreading, thanks to its continuous variation. The e19 full PowerShift is aimed at operators preferring more intuitive driving with defined gear ratios and usually a lower purchase price. Budget and driving habits remain key deciding factors.

Q: Which transmission parts are compatible with my John Deere series?

Compatibility of transmission parts depends directly on the model and series of your tractor. Each John Deere series, such as 5M, 6M or 6R, has specific components like axles, torque converters, or final drives. To avoid ordering errors, always have your machine's serial number ready before searching for spare parts.

Q: How to identify a faulty John Deere transmission part?

Several visible or felt symptoms can indicate a failing transmission part. Jerks during gear changes, unusual vibrations under load or loss of driving power are warning signs to take seriously. Oil leaks around the gearbox housing often point to a faulty seal. Consulting a specialized technician as soon as these signs appear helps limit the risk of prolonged tractor downtime.

Question 1

What transmissions are available on John Deere tractors?

Accepted Answer

John Deere offers several transmission types depending on the tractor series. There is the AutoPowr continuously variable transmission providing smooth progressive drive without torque breaks, as well as the full PowerShift transmission, with the new e19 version featuring 19 forward and reverse gears on recent 6M and 6R series. Compact ranges are equipped with eHydro hydrostatic or mechanical PowrReverser transmissions.
