Question 1

How can I tell if my beater variable speed drive is worn?

Accepted Answer

The most common signs are a beater speed that no longer increases or decreases, a slipping belt, pulley noise, or worn pulley flanges. Also check the control system—hydraulic cylinder or electric motor—before replacing the entire variable speed drive. See our other threshing parts if the wear affects the beater as well.

Question 2

Where can I buy a used beater variable speed drive?

Accepted Answer

From a specialist in combine harvester dismantling, who inspects parts before sale. TMC Bejenne offers used variable speed drives for New Holland, Claas, John Deere, Deutz-Fahr, and Laverda. Call us at 05 86 24 00 26: we will search our stock and inform you of availability.

Question 3

Should the belt be replaced with the variable speed drive?

Accepted Answer

It is recommended. A worn belt does not grip properly between the flanges, distorting the variable speed range, even if the variable speed drive is in good condition. Take advantage of the dismantling to check bearings and shaft, and to inspect the beater reducer if your machine is equipped with one.

Question 4

How do I adjust the beater speed after replacement?

Accepted Answer

Once the variable speed drive is installed, check the speed displayed in the cab across the entire range, from minimum to maximum. Then adjust the speed according to the crop: lower for peas or rape seed, higher for cereals, following your machine manufacturer's recommendations. A persistent discrepancy between control input and actual speed often indicates a worn belt or a control system needing inspection.

Question 5

Beater variable speed drive for Case IH Axial-Flow: what to choose?

Accepted Answer

On an Axial-Flow, the variable speed drive powers a longitudinal rotor instead of a transverse beater. References vary by series, such as 1600, 2300, or 6000, and by rotor transmission. Provide us with the serial number of your Case IH Axial-Flow: our technicians will find the corresponding variable speed drive or the suitable part in our rotor variable speed drive subcategory.
