Which used threshing harvester parts for a combine harvester?

Conventional combine harvesters are equipped with a threshing drum and concave ensemble. The threshing drum is a cylinder made up of several flanges supporting between 6 and 8 threshing bars (grooved bars). The most common diameter is 600 mm. The length is adapted to the machine's output. The speed is adjustable, between 400 and 1,200 rpm, with a hydraulically controlled belt drive. The concave is a curved grid positioned under the threshing drum at an angle of up to 120°. It is made of steel wires 5 to 15 mm apart.

The grain is removed from the ears by impact and friction between the threshing drum and concave. Most of the grain passes through the concave. This requires adjustments:

• the speed of the threshing drum according to the crop harvested and the harvesting conditions (humidity, volume, straw, ...);
• the interval at the entrance between the threshing drum and the concave (the approximate order of magnitude is the diameter of an ear);
• the interval at the exit between the threshing drum and the concave (the approximate order of magnitude is the diameter of a grain).

The consequences of a wrong adjustement are easily detectable:

• excessive speed and/or a too small interval tend to break the grains and over-crush the straw (possible obstruction of the cleaning system);
• a too low speed and/or a too large interval leaves grains in the ears.

The threshing drum inlet is protected by a curved sheet called "stone trap" where the stones brought into the crop flow (if they are small) fall. On some models this stone trap can be rotated 180° to prevent the ears of grain from moving forward and can be used as a deburring system (mainly for barley).
